Our friends at Pedal Minnesota, the Minnesota Bicycle Tourism agency, offer lots of advice for those who ride off-season. There's the 14 Essential Winter Biking Events, Fat-biking in Winter, and Winter Storm Warnings for Cyclists. We gotta admit, this catches us a little flat-footed.
Insider tips
So we gathered our brightest climatologists, outdoorsy types and fair-weather cyclists to ask, "What winter cycling advice should we suggest?"
"Extra water," kept coming up because you can get a little parched pedaling when it's 70º out. You're gonna need sunscreen and a hat, too.
After this short-list things got snarky: beach towels and a swim-buddy, don't forget a light in case you spend too much time watching the sunset, extra cash for ice cream, a sweatshirt – don't forget to tell them they need a sweatshirt! You get the idea, we're out of our league.
We're all for sharing best practices, but winter cycling here isn't a whole lot different from one season to the next.
Come see for yourself.
